The cost of applying to EPIK

I've had a few people interested in how much it has cost me to get all my documents and everything ready for Korea. So, here's a checklist of what I have spent so far.......! Haha my next post will be about the pay/benefits that I will get, as to not depress myself too much.

And this will maybe help people see why I am constantly skint at the minute :)

100 hour TEFL Certificate - £229/ $329
(This is now a required document when applying through EPIK)

Original Sealed Transcripts  - £50/ $80
I ordered two copies of my transcripts - even though only one is required for application. EPIK recommend this, because you might need the the other copy when going to the Korean Embassy.

A signed copy of my degree with apostile attached - £5 for the signature from the solicitor, £5 x 2 to send the items tracked to the FCO and £36 for the apostile inc delivery - £51/ $82
I included the £6 delivery on this and the CRB check as I ended up having to send my documents to the FCO twice. The £5x2 is also for the same reason.)

A CRB check with apostile attached - £25 for Basic Disclosure and £36 for the apostile inc delivery -£61/$98

Sending my documents to Korea - £65/ $104
I used Parcel Force Global Express which guarantees delivery within two days, and the documents can be tracked.

Passport Photos - £5/ $8

TOTAL SO FAR - £461 / $701

Things that I still have to pay for
-  Going to the Korea Embassy in London to get my visa
- Flight tickets to Korea (See next post - my flights are paid for, but in my first months pay check)

So, I will definitely suggest making sure that teaching in Korea is what you want to do as it is not a cheap application process! But, as it is what I want to do...... these costs will soon be forgotten. I will now just go and take some more money off my money tree.........

  1. I've decided I'm not going to tally up how much I've spent on the application process until i find out for sure if i get a placement or not. It would be too depressing to think about how much money was wasted if I get denied, but if I'm accepted it will be a great reward for all the trouble/money spent! :P

    1. Haha yeah counting it all up it seemed like a good idea at the time....!
Hopefully we have sent our documents early enough to get a place, I dread to think how I would feel if come June/July I find out that I didn't get a place! But I'm staying positive :D

See you in Korea :D xx

  2. I have also just worked out how much it has cost me :/ (luckily I got a placement and in Busan, my first choice).
But... is it right that they keep all the documents? I had to send original certificates so at some point in my life I will have to pay to get them all again!

    Thanks,

    Amy
